After a lot of hard work developing a baked good for the American Society of Baking (ASB) competition, the Washington State School of Food Science Product Development Team saw their efforts come to fruition when it was announced that they finished second in the competition.
The baked good that the team created was a brownie from ube, a sweet yam from the Philippines. The yam was used to give the dessert a sweet, vanilla-like sweetness while also containing the daily amount of fiber needed. The team traveled to Chicago from February 28 to March 3 to compare their baked good against other universities.
Their second-place finish propelled them above 13 other universities that had submitted a proposal.
Below are some photos taken by members of the team while they were in Chicago.
