Dr. Girish Ganjyal, Professor and Extension Food Processing Specialist in the WSU School of Food Science, gave an invited keynote lecture on October 21 at the Workshop on Balanced Feed Production Technology (FIGAP México 2026) in Guadalajara, Mexico.

His talk, “Cost-Smart, Nutrition-Rich: A Pulse-Ingredient Strategy for Pet Food Extrusion in Latin America,” showed how pulse ingredients such as pea, lentil, and chickpea flours, starches, proteins, and fibers can improve the nutrition, texture, and cost of pet foods and animal feeds. It covered single-screw and twin-screw extrusion, published case studies, and opportunities in the Mexican and Latin American markets.
The workshop brought together feed and pet food manufacturers, technical leaders, and suppliers from Mexico, Central and South America.
This work is part of WSU Extension’s outreach to help the food and feed industries add value to Washington and regional agricultural products.
