Upcoming Events and Deadlines

The CAHNRS Lab Crawl will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 from 5-7 PM in the Ensminger Pavillion. Please pre-register on the CAHNRS Google Doc. Free pizza will be provided.

WSU will be conducting the fall semester test of the WSU Alert systems on the Pullman campus on Thursday, October 10 at 11:55 AM. Faculty, staff and students associated with the Pullman campus who have signed up for emergency notifications will receive text messages, phone calls, emails, and desktop alerts on select computers which will be clearly identified as a test. This test will also include the campus outdoor warning sirens, which are designed to warn people on campus to take shelter.

UI International Programs presents: Conversation Partner Social Hour, all students are welcome and snacks will be available at the campus co-op from 3:30-5:00 PM.

The next Hazardous Waste Management Workshop for Lab Operations is scheduled for 2:30-4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, in Ag Sci 62. This class is appropriate for anyone who generates and/or manages hazardous waste in a lab. Pre-register on Vandal Web’s webpage.

Join recent SFS graduate, Zachary Cartwright, with METER Group for a presentation on water activity and isotherms, as well as help with job searching/applying to grad school on October 23, 2019 at 5:30 PM in FSHN Kitchen 103/155.

WSU Faculty, funding for research on cider production is available through the 2019 Internal Competitive Grant Program Request for Proposals. Submit the proposal electronically to the CAHNRS Office of Research by 5 PM, October 30, 2019. All proposals must be emailed to ARCGrants@wsu.edu (cc. mark.hubbard@wsu.edu). COR staff will acknowledge receipt of a readable proposal within one working day after submission. See attached document for more information.

The deadline to submit Session and Presentation Proposals and Technical Research Paper Abstracts for IFT20 is October 31, 2019 at 4PM. Learn more on the IFT website.

Deadline to drop & withdraw from UI/WSU:

  • UI: Fri. Nov 1, 2019 – Deadline to withdraw or audit semester classes (W goes on your record)
  • WSU: Friday, Nov 15th, 2019 – deadline to withdraw (W) from a course. A W goes on your record.

The Student Section

There will be a data carpentry workshop held on October 10-11, 2019. The Data Carpentry workshops introduce the computational skills needed for effective data management and analysis. More information and to register can be found on the Data Carpentry website.

UI Students: Here is the link for the UI/WSU Reciprocal parking agreement for information regarding parking and permit requirements for UI and WSU. This should give you the information needed now that WSU is moving to a plate recognition system.

WSU Students and Faculty:  Here is the link https://transportation.wsu.edu/wsu-ui-permits/ for the WSU/UI Reciprocal parking agreement.  To print a permit that will be valid at UI, you will need to log-in to your WSU parking account using your WSU NetID at parking.wsu.edu.  There is an icon that you can click to print either a daily permit or a permit for the whole semester that you can display in your window for UI parking.

Extension Events

Nominations are open for the Line Work Award with the 39th Annual Food Safety and Sanitation Workshop. This annual award recognizes an employee for exceptional service and commitment to food safety and sanitation within their company. Find more information and the nomination form on the WSU Extension website.

Jobs, Internships, and Scholarships

Dr. Girish Ganjyal, the PI of the Food Processing Laboratory in the School of Food Science at Washington State University has openings for enthusiastic and hardworking undergraduate students, who are eager to have some hands-on experience in the laboratory testing of the physicochemical and functional properties of grains and pulses. This is a paid, part-time position for students that are willing to work minimum 10 hours a week. Interested students can contact Ewa Pietrysiak at ewa.pietrysiak@wsu.edu.
