Invent a new candy? Sounds fun!
That’s what some of Idaho’s youth got to try out at a workshop held at the University of Idaho on March 6-7.

Barb Nielsen, Research Support Scientist under Dr. Gulhan Unlu led a food-science related workshop based on candy, specifically Willy Wonka’s “Inventing Room” from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. She let the kids “develop” their own candy invention.
It was very well-received by the kids and their parents. There were lots of good comments from many attendees, including an enthusiastic “This was the best workshop ever!” from one of the young participants.
This activity was in conjunction with the state finals of the Invent Idaho competition, involving students in the 1st through 8th grades, held yearly at the University of Idaho.
