Students Take a Top Spot in IMPA Competition

Team members L to R: Alex Meldrum, Charles Diako, Shiloh Mangan and advisor Mike Costello

Our student team took second place in the Annual Idaho Milk Processors Association (IMPA) Dairy Product Development Competition on August 14-15.

The team returned for a second year with a refined product and presentation. They made a soft drink that utilizes greek yogurt whey.

Returning team members are Alex Meldrum and Shiloh Mangan, and they added sensory expert Charles Diako to their group this year. The orange cream dairy beverage drew the attention of multiple companies who potentially want to produce the product.

After their presentation, the team was inundated with interested people from industry and academia too. Valuable connections were made as a result of their work on this product.

The team’s advisor is Mike Costello. Congratulations to the team!
